My Core Values

Equity

I believe equity, diversity and inclusion are necessary in order to create a balanced and sustainable society. When a group of people is marginalized because of antiquated systemic structures, it creates barriers. We must continue to work together to dismantle these barriers so that every person can contribute to and benefit from society.

“That which is not good for the swarm, neither is it good for the bee." Marcus Aurelius, Book VI, 54.

Sustainability

We need sustainability and balance in all facets of life. Many of our students need support with learning recovery as we return to in-person learning. We are also seeing a surge in mental health concerns among our staff and students. We are witnessing, first-hand, the devastating effects of climate change both globally and locally. We need to address all of these issues, and more, in order to move forward in a sustainable way.

"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect." Chief Seattle, 1854

Transparency

I have striven for greater transparency and accountability during my 12 years as your Trustee. I advocated to make it easier for people to voice their concerns at our public board meetings through our Delegation Policy and Governance Procedure. I championed greater accountability at the board table, and now our meeting minutes record how each Trustee voted on each motion. I have worked diligently on our board policies and governance procedures to give more opportunity for public engagement. And I have recommended and sought professional development opportunities for Trustees so they can more effectively support their communities.

"A lack of transparency results in distrust and a deep sense of insecurity" Dalai Lama
